On 6th May, the AGRA Conference Committee visited St John’s College, Cambridge to finalise arrangements for our big genealogy event ‘Demolishing Brick Walls’ on 16th and 17th September. It was a wonderful opportunity to tour the College, and beautiful weather for a stroll in the grounds to soak up all the historical atmosphere. We saw the quads, the buttery where we will have breakfast on the morning of Saturday 17th, and the magnificent wood-paneled dining hall where plans for the formal dinner on Friday the 16th are well advanced. We crossed the famous Bridge of Sighs over the river Cam, complete with punts beneath, to visit the gardens with their wonderful lawns rolling down to the river. If the weather is clement, drinks before the conference dinner will be served there. We also visited the modern and well appointed Fisher Building which houses the lecture theatre, the main conference reception area, and meeting rooms, and which will be our home on conference day. Here are some photographs of our visit to whet your appetite.
With just under 150 days to go, excitement about the conference is mounting and bookings are brisk. Don’t delay as the Early Bird discount of 6% is coming to an end. You still have a few more days to book and get that discount if you sign up before the end of April 2016.
The full Demolishing Brick Walls Conference Programme for the 16/17 September 2016 genealogy conference organised by the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives is now announced. Explore the pages on this website to find out more.
